The role that Ukraine has played in the geopolitical processes sweeping the region of Eastern Europe, Baltic Sea and the whole of Eurasia, has sparked interest in many aspects of Euromaidan, the annexation of Crimea and the Russo-Ukrainian war. One area that received a particular boost is Media and Communication Studies, where the issues of information management and warfare, fake news and propaganda, and mediatisation of war are coming to the foreground. While Media and Communication Studies in Ukraine often lack empirical approach and international publications, there is a growing body of work by Western scholars who are interested in the novel media trends that arise and are being tested in the country.

At the webinar Professor Göran Bolin and Associate Professor Per Ståhlberg will present their current book project, preliminarily titled The Management of Meaning in Turbulent Times: Information Policy, Agency and Media in Ukraine, and based on several years of empirical studies in post-2014 Ukraine. Postdoctoral researcher Roman Horbyk will tell about his ongoing research project on the use of mobile and communication technology by soldiers on the frontline in Eastern Ukraine.

Göran Bolin is Professor in Media and Communication Studies at Södertörn University.

Per Ståhlberg is Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies at Södertörn University.

Roman Horbyk is Baltic Sea Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow in Media and Communication Studies, Södertörn University.
