Call for Applications for IRES Visiting Resercher Program 2018

The Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) at Uppsala University hereby announces the call for applications to the IRES Visiting Researcher Program Fall 2018. The program offers fully funded one-month research fellowships at IRES, including a stipend of 20 000 SEK and reimbursements for travel and accommodation costs. Full access to IRES premises and Uppsala University library resources is provided throughout the research period. The current round of applications offers six individual fellowships. The research visits of four weeks in total have to take place within the period of September to mid-December 2018.   

The IRES is Uppsala University’s center of excellence on the post-Soviet sphere. Here, world-leading research is conducted in an open and dynamic environment that is truly cross-disciplinary and international. Among the academic staff are scholars in fields such as, but not limited to, political science, economics, law, history, literature, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, and geology. Each academic year, IRES hosts some 20 international academics from around the world, but mainly Europe, Russia and Eurasian, the US, and Canada.

The Selection Committee encourages applications from highly qualified and motivated researchers at both junior and senior levels. Applicants are required to hold a PhD degree or the equivalent. In addition, the applicant’s research focus must relate to the research conducted at IRES. In processing the applications, Committee Members will consider the applicant’s academic background, scholarly achievements and publication record, as well as the quality and relevance of his/her research proposal to the IRES environment.

Applicants are to provide the Selection Committee with a research proposal and CV (no more than four pages in total). The research proposal is to outline the research project that the applicant will pursue while in Uppsala. The proposal shall also clearly explain how a research visit at IRES would benefit the applicant’s research project, including details on planned activities to be carried out during the visit (i.e. archival work, interviews etc.). Preliminary dates for the research visit are also to be included.

Please kindly note that all incoming guest researches are required to deliver a presentation on some aspects of their research at the IRES higher research seminar. The applicant shall therefore in the research proposal include a draft title and a very short presentation description.
