Timeline and courses
Year 1
Semester 1
The first semester consists of three compulsory courses. The first is a methods course (5 credits). The second course provides an overview of the history, culture and society of Russia and the Soviet Union (10 credits). The third course is a course in Russian language at either beginner's, intermediate or advanced level depending on one's prior knowledge (15 credits).
Semester 2
The second semester starts out with a mandatory course about research methods worth 7.5 credits. The next 7.5 credit course is also mandatory and delas with economic, legal and social developments in Russia and the post-Soviet region. The third compulsory course brings up international relations with a focus on key issues regarding developments in the area. The fourth compulsory course is in Russian language at either beginner's, intermediate or advanced level (7.5 credits).
Year 2
Semester 3
The third semester is devoted to writing the Master's thesis (30 credits).
Semester 4
The fourth semester offers four different options: an internship in Sweden or abroad (30 credits), a Russian language course at a partner university abroad (30 credits), a couple of elective courses (15 credits each), or a relevant course or two offered within other Master's degree programmes.
