Master's Programme in Russian and Eurasian Studies

Why has Russia started the war with Ukraine and how is it reshaping the region? How are East European democracies dealing with their Soviet past? And what exactly is happening in Belarus? All these questions and more are explored in the Master’s Programme in Russian and Eurasian Studies. Through a combination of lectures, seminars and Russian language classes which are taught by experts in the field, as well as rigorous self-study, our programme offers a unique opportunity to study Russia and the post-Soviet space.
During your second year of study, a vital part of the programme is the opportunity to further your learning through internship opportunities or another intensive language course in Russia for those interested in studying abroad.
Premises are in the historic center of Uppsala and as a student you have easy access to professors, researchers and administrative staff, all of them experts in their fields. The atmosphere is friendly with extra-curricular activities organized by the student association TSARES, and the IRES film club. There are also weekly seminars organized by the institute that offer insights and discussions with some of the leading actors in our area of research.
The programme is cross-disciplinary and has an international profile. It prepares you for a variety of careers such as an analyst, government worker, researcher, policy consultant in the private and public sectors, both in Sweden and abroad. The degree also qualifies you for applying for doctoral studies in the Humanities or Social Sciences. The programme is taught in English.
