Seminar series on Estonian Swedes
Recently there has been a surge in interest in the history, culture, living conditions and language of Estonian Swedes (estlandssvenskar). To highlight this development, this spring, IRES will organise a seminar series on different aspects of the lives of Estonian Swedes. Please note that the seminars will be held in Swedish.
For the first seminar on Wednesday 24th of January we have invited anthropologist Kristina Rosen and cameraman Peter Östlund to talk about an ongoing film project about Bernhard Schmidt, an Estonian Swede born in 1879 on Nargö. Schmidt made important achievements in the field of optics and contributed to the development of the mirror telescope. Kristina and Peter will present their film work, a visit to the observatory in Bergedorf and trips to Nargö. They will also show a pilot version of the film.
Venue: IRES Library, Gamla Torget 3, 3 floor.
Time: Wednesday, January 24, at 18:00-20: 00. NB! The entrance door on the street level locks automatically at 18:00, therefore we kindly ask you to come on time.
No pre-registration required.
