The winner of the 2022 thesis competition arraged by the Swedish Chamber of Eurasia (former Swedish Chamber of Commerce for Russia & CIS) in cooperation with the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) is Jana Paegle for her thesis “Pipeline demagogy? The EU’s framing of Russia in the policy realms of decarbonization and energy security before and after the annexation of Crimea in 2014”, presented at the Department of Government at Uppsala University in spring 2022.

The thesis analyzes the EU-Russian relations in respect of what impact Russia´s annexation of Crimea 2014 has had on EU´s energy security policy as well as on the decarbonization efforts afterwards. The theme has indeed an obvious topicality. Besides giving indications of how Russia´s ongoing military aggression further might impact on EU´s energy security policies the thesis also contains a useful bibliography for further studies in this field. The thesis is the result of solid scholarly research based on a robust and widely accepted methodology. For a full version of the thesis kindly visit Uppsala University's homepage.

Jana is the first year student at IRES international two-year Master’s Programme in Russian and Eurasian Studies. She holds a Bachelor degree in Peace and Development Studies from Uppsala University.

We thank all students for their contributions and wish them all success in their future endeavors!
